Grades
How we grade a piece
We grade the piece, never the person. Every score is a count of something a reader can recount from the published page. A grade with no evidence string is invalid and must not be published. A piece can be sourced and still argue badly, so the fallacies a piece leans on are scored separately from the citations it supplies.
| Dimension | Weight | Question it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Citation specificity | 25% | For each historical claim, does the piece tell the reader publication, date, and page? |
| Quotation fidelity | 20% | When the piece quotes, can the reader find and check the quotation? |
| Claim–evidence match | 18% | Does the cited page actually say what the piece says it says? |
| Context completeness | 12% | Is the surrounding passage and the strongest opposing evidence present? |
| Correction behaviour | 10% | When the piece was wrong, is that visible to the reader? |
| Fallacy discipline | 15% | Does the argument rest on named fallacies, and how much weight are they carrying, in claims of fact (historical, institutional, or about named persons)? |
Bands: A 90–100 — Claims are checkable at a glance; quotation and context are intact.; B 80–89 — Well sourced. Weakness is presentation of context, not the sourcing itself.; C 70–79 — Some claims traceable, some asserted. A reader cannot verify the piece without doing the work themselves.; D 60–69 — Sources named but not locatable; the reader is asked to trust the writer.; F 0–59 — Substantial claims about contested history with no locatable source.

Response and corrections
A grade is published the way a review is published: the rubric and the evidence behind every score are on this page, and anyone graded may respond at any time. Responses are published alongside the grade, unedited, and a correction of us gets the same treatment in the corrections ledger. A grade is an opinion about sourcing, expressed as a count that a reader can recount on the page itself; it is not a claim about a person.
