About
Who publishes this
The Counterweight is an independent review of Adventist history and of claims made about it. It is edited by an editorial board and written by contributors who publish under standing pseudonyms.
Who writes here
Five standing voices, each with a named beat. The names are standing pseudonyms; the standard is not. Every piece is measured against the record, whoever signs it.
- Dr. Elias MortonEditor-in-ChiefMeasured, archival, and merciless with footnotes.
- Dr. Miriam SorensenTheology EditorCalm, precise, and hard to dodge.
- Caleb ThorntonInvestigative ReporterFact-driven, short paragraphs, no wasted words.
- Naomi OkonkwoGlobal Church CorrespondentWarm but pointed; the world church is not an afterthought.

Why pseudonyms
Because the argument should stand on the record rather than on the standing of the person making it. Every piece is judged by whether the cited page says what we claim it says. A reader who checks our citations can verify the work without knowing who wrote it, and that is the test we want to be held to.
What we do
Each article responds to a published claim — usually a news piece, a sermon transcript, or a widely shared post — and answers it from the denomination's own periodical record: the published pages of Adventist journals, cited with publication, date, and page. Where we quote a source, the quote is the source's own words, in context.
What we do not do
We do not claim spiritual authority, and we do not tell readers what to believe. We do not summarise a source and present the summary as the source. We do not accept advertising, and we do not run third-party tracking on this site.
